How To Deal With Rush Hour Traffic

By Jacqueline Star

Americans are spending a lot of time grid locked in traffic. You know the feeling; you're travelling at less than 5 mph on bumper to bumper traffic without relief in sight. It's normal to feel frustrated, anxious and annoyed in a situation like this. Did you know that the average person spends around thirty six hours a year in traffic? That's quite a long time! Those numbers will be even much longer if you reside in NY which is one of the most congested cities in the nation. Here are some tips to help you deal.

Did you know that you can use the internet in order to find out the roads are jammed or not? Sites like Sigalert show you all of the major freeways in your area color coordinated to indicate congestion levels; red indicates that it's grid lock traffic while green means that everything is smooth. This can help you plan an alternate route and lets you know which freeways to avoid. Some GPS systems also come with traffic updates.

Another alternative is to consider taking public transportation. In some cases it may be faster to take Metrolink instead of driving. It's also a lot more pleasant to relax on the Metrolink on a trip from Orange County to Los Angeles instead of sitting in traffic for hours.

You can also do your part to keep everything flowing smoothly by keeping the right if you are a slower driver. Lagging along in the fast lane at 45 miles per hour will cause other drivers to become agitated and possibly even tailgate or cut you off. It's generally a good rule to keep right if you aren't comfortable driving really fast.

You can also save on precious time by taking short cuts. During certain times of the day it may be conducive to take surface streets instead of the freeway. Try asking your friends or family if they know of any good shortcuts. Try to avoid freeways which only consist of a few lanes during rush hour as these can get clogged up.

It's always a good idea to leave as early as possible. This may not sound easy, especially if you're tired in the mornings. However, fact of the matter is that the flow of traffic can be unpredictable. A minor accident or even certain weather conditions can lead to major delays.
Last but not least, be aware of the fact that there will be times that you will get stuck, no matter how much you plan ahead and how early you leave. Sometimes it's simply unavoidable. Just remember to stay calm and think relaxing thoughts. You will get there.... Eventually.

Hitting The Road With Your Tires Intact

By Levi Quinn

Car maintenance is a subject that can be boring at times, of course, but it is much better to think about it now than wonder why in the world you neglected your car's basic needs (and what those even are) while broken down on the side of the interstate at the most inopportune time. Sure, talking about car maintenance is toward the bottom of everyone's preferred topics of conversation list, but with this article you can get the information you need about keeping your car's tires ready to hit the road quickly and painlessly. Just follow these simple steps and your maintenance routine will protect you against flat tires, blowouts, and endless hours on the side of the road waiting for someone to help.

* When you go to buy a new set of tires, make sure that they are appropriate for the climate in which you live and the way in which you use your vehicle. Tire manufacturers have mastered the art of tempering rubber in different ways to achieve maximum performance in different weather conditions and on different kinds of automobiles. The best way to determine which tires are best for your car is to talk to a trusted mechanic or tire retailer.
* Weigh the "new versus used" dilemma carefully. Many individuals opt for used tires simply because they are cheaper, and it is a viable option. But make sure that you get to look at the exact tires that will be put on your car before giving the green light. Some used tires can be as good as new and last quite some time, but others may be worn down and not worth the investment. Be sure that you keep in mind the fact that you will have to maintain this new set of tires and that if you buy used you will probably have to replace them sooner.
* Always inflate tires properly. Having air pressure that is too much or too little in your tires can cause them to go flat, to blow out, and to even decrease your fuel efficiency. Additionally, maintaining the proper air pressure in your tires can improve the handling of your vehicle and allow you to drive more confidently and safely.
* Avoid hitting debris in the road. Of course no one can swerve around every pothole and every piece of trash, but sometimes larger pieces of debris can find their way into your lane and, should you run over them, could cause massive damage to your tires. From large pieces of plywood to rusty old pipes, you would be amazed at what you could run over if you aren't paying attention.
* Know your car. Anytime your vehicle starts handling differently or driving funny, chances are you have an issue with your tires. Make sure that every time you feel the car pull to one side or have difficulty turning you pull over and check your tires before a flat or blowout can occur.

Maintaining your tires is one of the least time consuming aspects of car maintenance, so with a little bit of attention you can be sure to keep them road ready!

Benefits Of Synthetic Oils Over Conventional Motor Oils

By Walker Wisom

Conventional motor oil is made up of long chains and rings of carbon and hydrogen atoms. Crude oil which is pumped from the ground is separated at a refinery into various fractions to prepare the bases for fuels and lubricating oils. Exceptionally short carbon rings and chains are used to produce gasoline whereas long and thick chains of carbon atoms are refined to produce motor oil.

Various studies have shown that vehicles using conventional motor oils exhibit poor performance in low and high temperature situations. This is because such oils are made up of an inconsistent mix of atoms. The molecules oxidize, break and then evaporate when the motor engine gets heated up in extreme summer conditions. During low temperature conditions, the large carbon chains become thicker, increase the viscosity of the oil and do not allow it to flow properly. Synthetic oils can help in such a situation. With synthetic oils, your vehicles will give excellent mileage and high-performance.

Synthetic Oils Ensure Longer Engine Life
Synthetic oils consist of synthesized chemical compounds. They can also be made from modified petroleum products. They can be used instead of the conventional motor oil for vehicles operating in extreme temperatures. Cars, trucks and aircraft jet engines can use them to increase their performance. Using them, ensures a right balance between temperature and viscosity and gives better stability and longer engine life. It eliminates the risk of oxidation and evaporation of short carbon chains in high temperature areas. It reduces the risk of increasing the viscosity in extremely low temperature areas. It not only improves the racing performance of your vehicle but also has the advantage of fuel economy.

Benefits Of Synthetic Oils Over Conventional Motor Oil
* Faster Lubrication in All Temperatures: Synthetic oils ensure faster lubrication of the vehicle engine in all temperatures including extreme temperatures. You will not have any problem starting your vehicle even in extremely low temperatures. Your car or truck will hardly take time to start if you're using them. On the other hand, conventional motor oil gets oxidized and evaporated in high temperature and thickens excessively in low temperature.
* Minimizes Degradation: The usage of synthetic oils minimizes the degradation of fuel as well as the engine. It does not allow carbon atoms to either break or thicken and because of this, the engine of your vehicle remains in good condition and has a long life. It also ensures fuel efficiency. Conventional oil does not work well in extreme temperatures which leads to degradation of oil and also affects the engine.
* Greater Engine Efficiency: It is resistant to oxidation thereby reducing engine drag. It gives excellent racing performance in high-speed conditions. Additionally, it consumes less oil while operating at a higher speed. Conventional motor oil affects the performance of your vehicle and also reduces its life span.
* Keeps Engine Clean: Unlike conventional oil, synthetic oil does not allow oxidation to happen. It provides ample protection from harmful deposits in the engine. It remains clean all through and gives maximum fuel efficiency. Conventional motor oil does not protect the engine from harmful deposits. This is why the engine of your vehicle drags.
Synthetic oils can be used any time in new vehicles. It is not necessary to use conventional motor oil before using it.

Aptuned is a good source for Royal Purple synthetic engine oil and offers a wide range of transmission oil and synthetic oils at competitive prices. Their online store offers shop from home facility and most versions of synthetic oils are available.

Do Hydro Powered Cars Using Electrolysis Of Water Really Save Gas?

The latest technology to save us more money than ever before is Hydrogen Conversion. The process of converting your car to run on essentially water has been made very simple these days.

All you Need is a screw driver, a pair pliers and a container for a reservoir to hold the water that will be converted and your good to go. The process is designed to function with electrolysis.

Just introduce controlled electricity in to the water and capture the hydrogen that gets released and Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! These Conversion Kits can be located online with a minimal amount of searching. The technology is electrolysis of water.

Of course If you are less than convinced that these kits really work to save gas and increase milage and you just have to run out and spend money. I've given you the results of a consumer search alternative listed below:

Here I've laid out a list of used cars to avoid, by category, plus better used car alternatives:

In order to make this list of used-car rejects, a model had to score the minimum two out of five in the JD Power "circle ratings" for dependability-a below-average ranking. It also had to be ranked below average as a used car by Consumer Reports in its annual April car issue and online car rankings.

Avoid This Small Used Car: The Volkswagen New Beetle. Consumer Reports reliability survey reported problems with the fuel and electrical systems, the suspension, brakes, power windows, and other power equipment.

Alternative: The Ford Focus. It doesn't have the cuteness of the Beetle, but it's way more reliable. The Focus got the J.D. Power award as most reliable compact car. Owners of the 2007 Focus who responded to Consumer Reports reported no major trouble spots. And it's much cheaper than the Beetle.

Avoid This Mid-Size Used Car: The Chrysler Sebring. The 2007 Sebring sedan not only got just two circles from J.D. Power, Consumer Reports reported a laundry list of problems: engine cooling, minor transmission problems, the drive system, suspension, brakes and more.

Alternative: The Buick LaCrosse. Winner of the J.D. Power dependability award in this category,  the 2007 LaCrosse got an above-average used-car rating from Consumer Reports. It's a good value at a dealer price for the CX version.

Avoid This Small Used SUV: Jeep Wrangler. King of the off-road, the 2007 Wrangler can climb over almost any obstacle except a reliability test. Owners of the two-door version responding to Consumer Reports reported major transmission problems and issues with the electrical system and brakes. And it's selling on dealer lots at a relatively expensive price

Alternative: Honda CR-V. A lot less noticeable than a Wrangler, the Honda CR-V is a lot less trouble, too. It won the J.D. Power dependability award in this category and is rated by Consumer Reports as a well-above-average used car prospect.

Avoid This Mid-Size Used SUV: The GMC Acadia. The 2007 Acadia is a good example of the time-honored rule to avoid buying the first year of a model. It not only got a below-average two circles from J.D. Power, it received a much-worse-than-average used car rating from Consumer Reports. CR readers who owned the 2007 reported problems with the drive system, suspension, body integrity and power equipment.

Alternative: Honda Pilot. One of a handful of mid-size SUVs to get four circles from J.D. Power, the Pilot is rated well-above-average by Consumer Reports. (Its corporate stablemate, the Accord Cross tour, actually won the J.D. Power award. But many reviewers find its modified-sedan style not big enough to provide true SUV cargo or passenger room.

Avoid This Used Minivan : Nissan Quest. Never a strong contender in this category, the Quest gets a below-average used car rating from Consumer Reports and two circles from Power. Owners of the 2007 reported problems with the fuel and climate system, brakes and body integrity.

Alternative: The Toyota Sienna. This van gets four J.D. Power circles and an above-average CR used car rating. The Sienna is Not part of the Toyota sudden-acceleration recall. All in all a great used vehicle.

As I said earlier before you get rid of your old clunker and check out a Hydrogen Conversion Kit. The technology is
electrolysis of water. The are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

Even if you pay someone else to install it you still come out way ahead financially. Go take a vacation with all the bucks you save.

Visit HydroCarr.com to learn more about electrolysis of water. You can also view many free videos about hydrogen fuel cell cars.

Rumors Surround Mazda's Latest Rotary Engine Developments

By Josh Mitchell Butler

The final chapter of the Mazda RX-8, the only model which utilizes a rotary engine, is coming to a close. But there is still hope for the rotary engine. However, Mazda is not ready to let go of the rotary engine just yet. Rumor has it that Mazda is in the early stages of a rotary sports car, perhaps the newest RX-7 model.

Mazda's engineers are currently working on the Wankel rotary engine, striving to make it more efficient while also cutting CO2 emissions to continue with Mazda's environmentally friendly efforts. A senior insider at Mazda says that if the new rotary sports car obtains the proper funding, the goal is to cut CO2 emissions from the current RX-8 level of 299g/km to just 130g/km.

One way Mazda is trying to achieve this cut in emissions is through the use of laser ignition. Eliminating the need for spark plugs, laser ignition allows for easier combustion chamber sealing. Supposedly, the new rotary sports car will be modeled after the MX-5's platform and would eliminate the reverse door featured on the RX-8, making the vehicle weigh much less than its predecessors. These changes along with the use of lighter materials and installing an auto stop/start capability will result in an increased efficiency.

Of course micro-hybrid technology is also a huge step toward fuel efficiency, as Mazda knows. Allegedly, Mazda has met with Audi to discuss the possibility of a range-extending rotary engine. This collaboration is no surprise considering that the new Audi A1 hatchback-based e-tron concept utilizes a 254cc Wankel engine to extend its range. Rumor has it that Mazda is looking to partner with Audi, having the German company reproduce their engine system for the new Mazda rotary sports car.

However, Mazda is keeping its lips sealed. There is no definite answer about the future of Mazda's rotary sports car. A Car and Driver report outright denied any plans for a hybrid sports car and even said that the rotary engine was going into extinction. On the other hand, an Inside Line report asserted that work on the Wankel engine is in fact already under way, making the possibility of a rotary sports car very likely.

Time will tell whether Mazda continues the legacy of the rotary engine. Many auto enthusiasts are thrilled by the thought of a rotary engine RX-7. The truth about Mazda's plans may remain unknown but it is safe to say that technology could take Mazda's next sports car design in any direction it chooses.
